# The work STAKES starts from.

> Ten years of work on one stubborn question: can a company do anything useful for a place that is coming apart? The answers here run from a coffee cooperative in rural Colombia to small firms in Beirut trading through a currency collapse, by way of Myanmar, Langa, and a long argument about industrial relations theory. Two of the papers take stock of the field at twenty years, once backwards and once forwards. This is the ground STAKES builds on.
