# Seven countries where a company promised to fix something.

> Each case pairs one European multinational with one fragile setting. We name the country and the sector. We name the company when a peer-reviewed output naming it is published, and the page then links to that output.

- **Colombia** (Industrial technology, Fieldwork 2026). A German industrial group bet on rural electrification after the 2016 accord. Then the cities burned.
- **Lebanon** (Pharmaceuticals, Fieldwork 2026). A French drug company settled a bribery case in 2018. In 2022 it brought in 13,000 cholera vaccines.
- **DR Congo** (Brewing and beverages, Fieldwork 2026). The brewery kept its trucks moving by paying armed groups. Then it wrote a human rights policy.
- **Bangladesh** (Apparel sourcing, Fieldwork 2027). Thirteen years after Rana Plaza, the buyer says its own subcontractors undercut the wage it promised.
- **Mozambique** (Liquefied natural gas, Fieldwork 2027). A twenty billion dollar gas project promised jobs to Cabo Delgado. The insurgency arrived first.
- **Ukraine** (Consumer goods, Fieldwork 2026). One company, two sides. Twenty million dollars invested in Ukraine, thirty million paid in Russian tax.
- **Indonesia** (Palm oil, Fieldwork 2028). Can a plantation ever be responsible? Sumatra is where the EU deforestation rules meet the EU trade deal.
